As I mentioned in the last couple of emails, Thursday night we’ll be discussing how to apply 3 proven business techniques to your music.
The first thing most people say is:
“I don’t want to make money with my music.”
Today I want to talk about why you should treat your music like a business, whether you want to make any money with it or not.
I follow a guy named Dan Kennedy, one of those go-to business consultant guys. I recently bought a product from him about marketing (See? I don’t just sell tutorials. I buy them, too!), and he said something in one of the videos that stuck with me and really applies to today’s topic.
To paraphrase, he said:
Without marketing, you don’t get to be what you want to be. In other words, a dentist only gets to be a dentist if someone walks into her office with a mouthful of teeth and the ability to pay for dental work.
Without marketing, without finding an audience, she’s not a dentist. She’s just a well-trained person, sitting in a room, waiting.
It’s the same with our music. Whether you want people to buy your music or not, I’m fairly certain you want people to HEAR it. And to get people to hear it, you have to get out there and promote it somehow.
That’s going to be the topic of Thursday night’s webinar — how to apply marketing principles that I’ve used to grow my own business to the marketing of YOUR music.
See you there!
