- Tube shoot-out – We take a listen to swapping out the stock tube on a PreSonus TubePRE with a vintage RCA 12AX7 tube. Both are fairly over-the-top examples, but it’s interesting to hear what different tubes sound like.

IF YOU WANT REAL CLEAN SOUND GO WITH A GROOVETUBE GT-ECC83-S I DID IN MY ART TUBE AMP
I really like this blog Joe. The style of it is quite presentable. It reminds me of Darren Rowse’s blog, just for music production. Great job.

I purchased a presonus tubepre a few months ago and put a Groovetube 12ax7 the same day (the chinese made one). I really like the sound I get when I run my guitar through it into pro tools. I haven’t tried vocals yet.
I noticed a difference listening to the two compared. The older tube had more presence with a warmer and fuller tone. Fore vocals I use a bellari RP220 stereo tube mike. It has all the gain you would ever need. I have a mine for 15 years and bought it used with the original tubes and no mods that I know of. Also it works great as a DI for bass or guitar. I also use a Nady TCM 1050 Tube mike that sounds great on vocals very warm also good on acoustic guitars. I changed the tube to electro harmonix which helped over the chinese tube it came with. Snagged it on Ebay for less than $90.00. I would like to find another for stereo. That’s my opinion on it. I am dedicated tube guy.
