What is the HSC Production Club?

Two days ago, in my post about the secret to good home recordings, I announced the HSC Production Club. I’m really excited to finally be introducing this to you. It’s been in the works for a while.

Last week, I showed you videos of my home studio (part 1 and part 2). A few of you even posted your own videos (which was fantastic). Well, now I want to take you deeper into my studio and show you the production process.

In this video, I do two things:

Explain the HSC Production Club
Introduce a super-awesome, cheesy HSC theme song. I may have to switch careers to being just a jingle-writer.

You learn by doing. That’s how I learned how to record. That’s how I want to teach you how to record. Watch me do it, then go give it a shot. I’ll open the doors for sign-up on Monday.

What questions do you have? Ask them in the comments section. I’ll compile them all and answer them in tomorrow’s post.

Also, I’ll be doing a live question-and-answer session tomorrow afternoon from 1-3 CST via UStream.tv. I’ll be answering your questions both about the Production Club and recording in general. I’ll probably do another one over the weekend, too.

Wow, I would so be in on this, but I use cubase. If it wasn’t DAW-specific, I’d join. Good work, though. The industry needs more innovation like this.

What are you planning to do about the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year). I may be away for a week and not have acess to Pro Tools. What happens if someone falls behind or gets out of sync?

Joe this is a great idea and something I have looked for since I started learning to record. At that price for 3 months, this is an incredible value to me. I’m looking forward to signing up!

Re: non-PT users — from what I can see in the HSC PC outline, I suspect non-PT folks can accomplish many of these tasks with little issue. Weeks 1 -3 (Pre-prod, recording & rhythm) are pretty DAW-agnostic I think (arming a track on the “recording” pretty much should be the same). On other weeks, adapting and following along in editing/mixing in other major DAWs (like Cubase or Logic) is doable. I’ll leave that to Joe and the Q&A session, but I think it’s possible.
As for 3rd party stuff being used, I figure Joe will probably mix using default plug-ins PT plug-ins most of the time, and any 3rd party stuff is probably limited to Toontrack EZ Drummer etc.

I think this will be a great opportunity for me to move along in my skill and develop further in a shorter amount of time than I could alone. Can’t wait man!

I’m not a Pro Tools user… I know Cubase and just switched over to Reaper.
The Production Club will be based around Pro Tools, right? What do you think about having a non pro tools user as a member? Do you think I’ll be able to pick everything without using the specific software?

Hi Joe. Count me in!… I’m just curious about one (minor) thing.

Seems like you tend to use a lot of stuff that is 3rd party while you edit & mix – that doesn’t come native with Pro Tools. Software plug-ins or packages that your audience might not have installed while following the course material.

Are you going to lean more toward options that ship standard with Pro Tools LE, for the purposes of the course demos?

Not a huge deal… but I was just curious.
