“The music industry is dying because any bozo with a laptop can record an album in his bedroom.”
Or how about:
“Mp3 downloads are killing the music industry.”
“Piracy is going to destroy the music business.”
Sounds like a buncha whining to me.
Here are 2 facts for ya:
- Almost anyone with a couple hundred bucks can put together a home studio and record a song.
- There is a bunch of bad music out there.
Did #1 cause #2?
Maybe. Maybe not.
The truth is…it doesn’t matter.
Yes, big studios seem to be disappearing one by one (I regularly see a “going out of business studio sale” on the Nashville Craigslist page).
Yes, big record labels are hurting.
Yes, independent music is on the rise.
And you know what? All those independent musicians need YOU.
We need people like YOU to save the music industry.
Just because music is being recorded in a “home studio” doesn’t mean it can’t be “professional quality.”
Quite the opposite, actually.
The equipment is relatively inexpensive and easily accessible. All that’s missing is a core group of home studio owners who are committed to producing fantastic-sounding music out of their home studios.
Rather than bemoaning the problems in the industry, let’s be a part of the solution.
One session at a time.
