The thing about having 6-month-old twins is that if one gets sick, the other gets sick.
I spent the last two days taking them to the doctor and running to the pharmacy, all while trying to squeeze in some time to do actual work. (When Maggie and Lyla are sick, they just want to be held all the time. It’s super sweet, but you can’t really work on a mix with a sick baby in your arms, y’know?)
Needless to say, I’ve been getting a few minutes of work in whenever I can.
And you know what I discovered?
The work doesn’t care how long you have to spend on it.
The mix doesn’t care if you can only work on it for 10 minutes.
I have this tendency to not work on anything if I don’t have at least an hour to devote to uninterrupted work. Now, I’m all for focused times of work, but some days that just isn’t possible.
So I have two options:
Option #1 – Do nothing.
Option #2 – Do something.
Betcha can’t guess which option is the better one?
Ding! Ding! Option #2 of course.
While I’ve only been able to “escape” to my studio for a few minutes here and there the last few days, I’ve managed to FINISH two mixes for a client, in addition to finalizing the masters for his EP we’ve been working on.
All that’s left is for him to pay the invoice and for me to render out the final songs.
So no, I didn’t get to spend 8 hours in my studio. Heck, I barely got an hour or two in. But I got stuff done. I focused on what HAD to be done, and I did it.
So next time you hear that familiar “I don’t have enough time” voice, remember me and my sick kids. (Haha…how morbid is that?) Imagine you’ve GOT to get something done today. It doesn’t have to be huge, but it has to be SOMETHING.
Something’s better than no thing.
Like my 15-minute mix I did last week for VIP members. This week I’m going to compare that mix to the finished mix, and I think you and I both will be surprised by the differences (or lack thereof).
But the first mix was done in ONLY 15-minutes.
Everybody has 15 minutes.
Check it out in the VIP members area, and I’ll post the new comparison video on Friday for ya.
