Y’know how I’m always harping on how buying new equipment isn’t the answer to all your recording and mixing woes?
I’m not gonna tell you that today. Instead, I’m gonna let my subscriber Sean Hickey tell it like it is.
Here’s an email he sent to me recently:
Its a little off topic here but I just wanted to say thanks for all the posts and advice you have given. I signed up and have recived your emails for 2 years and havent missed one. I just completed my first recording, mixing, mastering project and without reading these posts I dont think it would have been possible. Ive thought many times I would give up or need to buy that expensive compressor or the newest gear out there to complete it. I stuck with my $300 AD converter and 5 decent mics. Is it perfect? Hell no but, I learned to use what I have to get decent recordings and mixes
Thanks Joe Your advice and posts are worth more than that new peice of gear that prob wouldnt have made my mixes sound any better.
There you have it. Sean’s just a normal guy like the rest of us. He’s making things happen. He’s finishing projects. He’s not hiding behind some lame excuse like “I don’t have time” or “my equipment isn’t good enough.”
I like you, Sean. 🙂
Full disclosure: Sean isn’t even a customer of mine. He’s gotten that much value out of my free email newsletters.
Just goes to show you that you can do this if you set your mind to it.
